The Grass Is Greener. . .(again)

Speaking of grass, I'm about to plant some. I just got finished spraying down the back yard with round off to kill all the weeds and sand spurs. Tomorrow I'll be pulling those dead weeds and preparing the soil to plant grass.

You know, Jesus talked about this in Matthew 13:7 where seeds were choked by thorns. This is so true. If I didn't clear my weeds and sand spurs first they would kill my grass and I would be wasting my money on the seeds. I would also be wasting my effort on watering the seeds.

Wouldn't it be rather stupid to waste your time watering something that is doomed to perish?

When I look at what Jesus said in Matthew 13 I imagine stupid people trying to water seeds that are sitting on concrete or on a rock. It's rather absurd!

Sometimes we need to remember that some seeds just aren't going to grow. We can't prepare the heart of people; only the Holy Spirit can. Only the Holy Spirit can remove the thorns that choke the seeds. Only the Holy Spirit can take the seed off the wrong path and set it on good soil.

Also, we need to remember to stop wasting our time watering the seeds sitting on the concrete. Stop wasting our time with people who aren't on good soil. If we don't believe that then we must believe that we "save" people instead of Christ saving people.

I think Jesus was saying His message falls on all kinds of people, but those who really want it (the good soil), those are the ones who end up really following Jesus!

keep the grass mowed short and water like crazy. Sand spurs don't like water.

Ok, let me be the other side of this. Sand spurs out of the subject. So, are you saying that we don't spread the word? I don't mean beat people over the head with it but, just put it out there so that they know it is there? It is their choice if they take it and nourish it but, they still should be told. Or am I missing the point? I could be sorry if I am.
And this comment of mine sounds rude, but, I don't mean it to be
Just wanted clarification. lol.

@ Siscaboo. . .
[are you saying that we don't spread the word?]

Not at all. In the parable of the sower the seeds are the places the Gospel and the kinds of people who hear it. We're supposed to be the ones scattering the seeds (bringing the Good News all over the place to all kinds of people).

[I don't mean beat people over the head with it but, just put it out there so that they know it is there?]

Beating people over the head with it is definitely a bad thing. That includes tearing pages from the Bible and slapping it to people's forehead using your spit as adhesive. Not a good thing!

*back to seriousness* A big part of the Gospel is telling the message accurately and then leaving them to make the decision. It's never good to coax/manipulate someone towards Christ; you then end up with a false convert. Another important big part of the Gospel is living it for them to see.

[It is their choice if they take it and nourish it but, they still should be told. Or am I missing the point?]

I'm not sure what you're asking, but let me try to explain what I meant in another way, very briefly.

1. The Gospel goes to all kinds of people. We're the ones who bring this message to them.

2. From there the job is no longer ours in regard to whether or not this person will accept Christ, grow as a believer, etc. We can water all we want but only God makes them grow. Only God changes this heart and their life.

3. I do believe we're supposed to put a tremendous amount of effort in reaching people that are hard to reach. I do believe we're supposed to keep trying on the immature believers who just aren't getting it. But we need to remember that our effort doesn't make those seeds grow. Only God does that.

3a. So don't beat yourself up when they don't get it.

3b. A be able to realize, through the council of God, that some aren't worth the effort and will be drain on you to the point that you won't be effect in reaching and helping others.

Does this help?

Let me make sure I was clear on this, with #2 even through we can't make people grow and change we ARE supposed to be watering in hopes that we will see growth.

I get what you are saying now. Sometimes I am not good with analogies so to speak. Thanks for taking the time to explain what you meant.
